Folks, just a quick cautionary note. I’ve gotten several emails from folks who are confused about our schedule. All our previous posts (including last year’s) appear on this page. It’s sort of a rolling report. You have to note the date tag on each post to tell when it was actually posted.  Until I can figure out how to hide (but keep available) posts from last year, please be sure to verify that the date on the post you’re reading is current.  Please click on “The Music Makers” tab for this year’s schedule. You’ll see last year’s as well so make sure you’re viewing the correct one.

Oh yeah….and see ya’ll on the lawn!!!

YUP

It’s hard to believe but tonight is the last Hot Summer Nights concert of the year. It seems like summer just got off and rolling! Fall is a great season though, so we’ve got that going for us…which is nice.

Tonight’s show is sure to please those who dig classic and contemporary covers that you can sing along with.  You’ll recognize lots of tunes that these guys will be laying down so bring your blanket, beach chair, air mattress, living room couch or anything else that makes you comfy and truck on down to the Central School lawn for a toe-tapping good time!

Okay, so rumor has it that the J of PB&J will be unavailable tonight but fortunately another J will be filling in for the P who will be covering for the unavailable J. Got it? Yeah, neither do I.  Just show up and see what happens!  By the way, the super-fantastic-awesomely-talented Taygra Longstaff will be opening.

SPECIAL NOTE: This show begins at 6pm so that it may complete before the vampires come out. Don’t be late!

See y’all on the lawn!

A Baby Grand that won’t break the bank!

Could it be that we get yet another dry Thursday evening? Methinks we will once again be on the lawn for our next to last gig of the summer.  Come on down tonight to hear some rockin’ tunes from a rockin’ band that will get you moving and grooving.  Traditionally a function band formed in the late 80’s, Baby Grand will likely play lots and lots of tunes we all know and love.  Come to think of it, you may want to just leave those chairs and blankets at home tonight and wear some comfortable dancing shoes instead! Heck, with all those calories you’ll be burning why not have an extra slice or two of pizza while you’re at it. It’ll be available along with drinks and other goodies from our lovely concession folks, smack dab on the Central School lawn.

SPECIAL NOTE: Due to the  23.5 degrees of the Earth’s rotation axis with respect to the ecliptic axis, we will be starting slightly early tonight so we can have a full length event prior to Mister Sun hiding behind the school. Our opener, Avalon, will be taking the stage at about 6:20 instead of the traditional 6:30.  You can miss a lot in 10 minutes so don’t be late!

See ya’ll on the lawn!!!

SOBOPALOOOOOOOOOOOOZA!!!!!!!!!

Alright, alright! The weather is finally cooperating with us and giving our fair town some good ole fashioned sunshine and heat for our Thursday night shows. Tonight expects to be no different. Although what will be different is the concert itself. What you will get for the ridiculously low price of “FREE” is no less than 20 acts that may eventually go on to be the next “American Idols”.  That’s right, tonight is the second annual Sobopalooza, the night where we celebrate the incredible, young musical wonders that surround us. I bet you never thought you may be living next to the next Mick Jagger or Joni Mitchell,  did ya? Well, these kiddos are gonna blow you away with their talent so don’t miss a single minute of tonight’s show. If you show up, I promise it’ll make you proud to live in this stellar community with all these great kids.

VERY IMPORTANT!! This event starts at 5pm and goes until darkness envelops Central School so we can provide you with lots and lots of music. So bring the family, bring your smiles and also bring some pocket money for food, glow sticks and whatever else our merchandising department has cooked up. I hear through my sources that there will even be 2009 Sobopalooza CDs for sale. Incredible!

In no particular order of appearance, here’s a list of the festival’s performers:

Andrew Mendola
Lina Tullgren
Isa Burke
Juliana Burke
Jamie Meader
Andrew Waterhouse
Amelia Hazen
Avalon Forrest
Sydney Porter
James Gilmore
Molly Mugford
Jo Fletcher
The Martins
Briana  Bouchard
Tom Menzie
Taygra Longstaff
Christian Flynn
Connor Haley
Anna Hymanson
Gage Kennie

See y’all on the lawn!

Thursday, July 30th—The Heat Is On!!!

First of all, apologies abound for not getting a post out about Chronic Jazz Syndrome last week but ya gotta take a vacation sometime, right? Anyway, the ever present grapevine told me the  show was fabulous with a wee bit of a light turnout attributed to the coolish weather. C’mon people, we’re New Englanders! Dress the part, grab a hot coffee at the Early Bird and enjoy the free music!  I hope this heat doesn’t keep folks from showing up this week cuz that would be one heck of a mistake!  Okay, I’ve said my peace…on to business.

Ya Mon, let’s get this beach (ahem, lawn) party started!!! Finally we get some hot and spicy weather for New England’s hottest steel band who just so happens to be playing at the hottest summer concert series around! Let’s just hope the sun keeps shining for this Thursday evening with Mango Groove and opener, Amelia Hazen.  If that ole Mister Sun stays uncovered it’s gonna be a scorcher.

Alrighty then, drag yourselves away from that air conditioner for a couple hours and come get sweaty with us. This hot, sticky weather is just perfect for throwing on that Hawaiian shirt, some flip flops and dancing the night away! You can always take a shower later, right?  Summer’s short, especially this year…so don’t miss this show if you want to feel the heat.  Come all ye faithful,  saunter down to the Central School lawn, have a slice or three of pizza,  grab a cold drink and get your groove on!

And as always,  if those @#$%^& rain clouds come in again, we’ll be heatin’ things up over yonder in Town Hall.

Oh yeah, and another thing!  Don’t forget next Thursday, August 6th for the 2nd annual  Sobopalooza, South Berwick’s very own young talent music festival. This gig will run from 5pm until dark so make sure you get downtown earlier than normal so you don’t miss a single minute.  For those of you who might have to work late this may be a perfect opportunity to use the ole ” I got something in my eye and can’t see staying all day” schtick to get out early! See ya’ll there.

Where’s Waldo?

Okay, not really Waldo but Joyce Andersen and friends. Will they be on the “World Famous” Central School lawn or across the street in Town Hall? Only those unpredictable Weather Deities know for sure. One thing we can tell you though is the show will go on…rain or shine. Don’t miss tonight’s trio of Joyce, Bryan Killough on guitars and Steve Roy on bass. Be there or be square.
