LanternFest 2011: Thursday, August 25 at Spring Hill

SoBo Central invites you to bring your family and friends for a magical night of light at Lanternfest 2011!
LanternFest is a celebration of the simple pleasures of community. Held on the beautiful grounds of Spring Hill, 117 Pond Road, South Berwick, LanternFest will be a night of light and music. Come early for a picnic on the lawn and enjoy the music of local band PB & J. At sunset a lantern walk will commence. Young and old will join in a walk through the fields and woods of Spring Hill carrying handmade lanterns to create a river of light in the August evening. The lantern walk will end on the shores of Knight’s Pond and the crowd will witness the peace and beauty of water lanterns bobbing on the waters and lanterns rising into the sky. The evening will end with an AfterGlow Party at the Spring Hill function hall.
LanternFest is a free event.
Spring Hill will be offering hot dogs and hamburgers for sale. There will also be drinks, chips and dessert for sale.
Lanterns will be available to purchase for a donation (Proceeds go to SoBo Central to offset costs for LanternFest)
The AfterGlow Party will have a cash bar.
Spring Hill Grounds open at 5:30 for picnics (Bring your own or purchase hot dogs, hamburgers, desserts, and drinks)
PB & J concert starts at 6:00
Lantern Walk and Lantern Launch 7:45- 8:45

How to make a soda bottle lantern:
-Find a plastic bottle (any shape or size; 2 liter soda bottles work great)
-Cut off the top of the bottle, about 1/3 down
-Gently scuff your bottle with fine sand paper
-Select tissue paper colors and make cutouts
-Make a mixture of one part white glue and one part water
-Lightly paint your tissue with the glue (one piece at a time)
-you can cover your bottle with white or light colored tissue paper to make a base for your patterns or decorations
-Apply shapes to your bottle. Be creative-dragons, princesses, stars, stripes, stars, lace, etc.
-Allow drying overnight
-Punch two holes in the top opposing sides of bottle; use string or a hanger as your handle
-You can use a candle in your lantern. (extended burn tea light candles work well) A battery powered votive or a glow stick is safer for younger children.
